One of the ways you can help is by sponsoring a child. We would be very grateful for your help in caring for these children as nearly every week a new child arrives:

Sponsoring a child: £15 a month

This amount helps to cover the cost of food and all other essentials for one child in a foster family in one of our Children's Villages, although this doesn't include the running expenses of RTU's schools! You will be sent a photograph of the child that you are sponsoring along with a case history of the child. You can choose if you would like to sponsor a boy or a girl and which age range. We will keep you informed about the child if you wish and send you a new photo and a report before Christmas each year.

Sponsoring a student: £40 a month

RTU supports its children from age 18 through professional studies - the final step on their journey out of the deprivation they came from, and enabling them to fulfil their potential. Costs vary widely; here are some examples (from 2012 - course fees rise each year):

Engineering Degree (BE) - popular amongst the boys, 4 years, around £900/year (£75/month).

Engineering Diploma. This has many versions, leading to a range of different jobs. 2 or 3 years, around £600/year (£50/month).

General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM), 3 or 3£ years, around £750/year (ie typically £63/month).

Pharmacy or other Polytechnic course, 3 years, from £1900 (53/month).

Teacher Training (Primary School) is considered a good job for women. 2 years, around £750/year (£63/month). The 4-year BEd is becoming more popular. Training to be a Special Educator for mentally challenged children is another option taken by some: 2 years, £750/year.

Industrial Training is a basic course that any average student can qualify for: 2 years, £500/year (£42/month).

MBBS a full medical qualification taking 5 years. Two students have completed this in the past, when there was a quota for orphaned students making it a little easier to get a place.

Of course we welcome any support for this area of growing - and vital - expenditure. If you sponsor a student for a minimum of £40/month, we can send you details of a young person from an RTU Children's Village you are helping towards a worthwhile career. For more information, contact our UK office.

We also run a sponsorship programme for the elderly and disabled, although we cannot offer a personal link in the same way as for children and students.

Sponsoring an elderly person: £8 a month

The cost covers a basic monetary allowance paid each month, a new set of clothing given each year before the Divali festival, and any necessary medical care.

The easiest way to sponsor a child, student or elderly person is by setting up a standing order with us. If you would like any further information about any of the sponsorship programmes do email or ring us.

Some other ways to help:

£975 will build a new family house in a village, and £1,200 will pay for a bore well to give clean, safe water to a rural village for typically 45 families.
