Housing for the poorest families in rural communities in South India is often unsafe, dirty and at real risk of being destroyed by monsoon rains. Mainly built from coconut thatch on bare ground, houses are prone to vermin and are a large fire hazard. Without the funds to repair or rebuild their homes, often these families have to turn to local moneylenders, spiralling into debt.

For just £1200, you can fund a new home for people like Muthulakshmi, who was left homeless with her son and disabled daughter after their hut was destroyed by rains. By helping us to provide homes through our house-building programme, we can transform the lives of the families who most need support. If you'd like to name a house, perhaps in memory of someone, please mention this in the comments section of the donation form - we always send photos and details of the house that has been built. Or you can contribute towards part of a house. For further information, please do get in touch.

"We built a house in memory of my dear wife Angela who died in 2016. In November 2018, I visited RTU with my daughter, Steph, on one of the arranged trips and we were able to meet Pandi, Chinnathai and their three children. What a humbling experience to meet them - there was not a dry eye amongst us! We felt so pleased that we had helped transform their lives in Angela's memory. She would have loved to have met them." On behalf of the families whose lives you are transforming, thank you. Your generosity is immeasurable.

"We found very difficult to take care of our sickly mother during the raining season as our hut was filled with rain water. During this time, one of my friends informed me about RTU’s housing scheme. RTU replied positively and visited our hut immediately. After verifying our family situation and land documents, they built a wonderful and safe house with electricity for us."
