Give clean, safe water

Around 140,000 children under the age of five die every year in India due to diseases caused by contaminated water. The Tamil Nadu region is heavily dependent on two monsoon rains every year in order to maintain a regular water supply, but when they fail drought conditions can quickly spread – with devastating consequences.

Women and children may need to walk as far as 2km every day to carry water to and from their homes. Young children often have to help collect fresh water, which means they cannot attend school regularly. The long-term effect on their education and future life opportunities can be devastating.

Since 1980, Reaching the Unreached has provided over 2,500 wells to rural villages. These new wells have given clean, safe water to hundreds of thousands of communities, leading to improved health and fewer children missing school due to illness.
