In July 2019, three new mobile tailoring centres were opened, to provide training in tailoring skills to women in our local villages. The qualification the course participants receive enables them to find steady employment, helping them to support their families and offering many of them the opportunity of real empowerment in their communities through our self-help groups.

We also opened a tailoring centre on our RTU main campus, to offer the same training to the foster mothers in our Children’s Villages.

In January 2020, 22 women from our local village of G.Kallupatti, including 15 foster mothers from the Children’s Villages, were presented with their certificates. Some of the beautiful handicrafts they made during their course were on display, as seen below, to the great appreciation of RTU staff!

The three mobile tailoring units have now moved on to train women in other villages, bringing opportunity and hope to more rural villages and communities.
