Our Dad, Ray Murray, sadly passed away on Sunday 10th September. Reaching the Unreached (RTU) was a charity very close to his heart.

He began his involvement when he decided to join a couple of friends who were travelling to RTU in rural South India to help teach marginalised and disadvantaged children spoken English. He was thrown in at the deep end on day one when he found himself talking to a small group of children who wanted to know all about life back home. He survived and for the next set of lessons he sat up deep into the night preparing his lessons. He immediately fell in love with RTU, and together with his friends, Woody and John, he taught the Year 13 girls spoken English so that they would be more confident when they left RTU to go to college.

Using popular themes, they made posters and practiced pronunciation. But his greatest achievement was when he taught the children to sing “We All Live In a Yellow Submarine”. All the students loved him. Father Anthony, on hearing he had passed, said, ”He was kind, generous, and always had a smile on his face. I will always remember his kindness and the way he made me and our children feel.” Before he left, he continued to help by sponsoring a girl’s education and she is now a qualified engineer. He had hoped to visit RTU in January next year and meet his latest sponsor child. Sadly, that will no longer happen.

So we, his children - James and Chris - believe it would be a fitting tribute that he be remembered with a contribution towards RTU as he was a devoted supporter of this charity for so many years. It would mean so much to our family and, we’re certain, him as well.

Thank you for your kind support in memory of Ray.
