Since 1997, RTU has been providing training in tailoring to women from the most impoverished backgrounds.
The skills they learn enable them to earn a living and secure a future for their families. Many set up businesses that help them to become financially independent in the long term and the wider benefits of their training, which builds confidence as well as skills, reach far into their communities.
Our three mobile tailoring units deliver six-month courses twice a year, bringing the training to different villages. Each year more than 180 women attend the courses, which are officially accredited.
Following practical and written Government exams, those who pass are awarded certificates that enable them to take up paid work. Some also go on to train others as well as setting themselves up in business.
