I wanted to run for the London Marathon for a charity that has not had the opportunity in the past and is a cause that is close to people I know. Although the May event had to be cancelled, I am now taking part in the virtual one on Sunday 4th October to raise vital funds for RTU
In Loving Memory of our mother Stella 1929-2020
We are walking 100 miles during the lockdown to raise vital funds for Reaching the Unreached and their emergency relief work supporting the most disadvantaged families in remote rural villages in South India
I am 82 years old, a past pupil of Brother James, founder of RTU, and am self-isolating having completed over four weeks of ratiotherapy for cancer. Living in a flat with a shared communal garden it struck me that I could raise money for RTU by walking 8km a day around the gardens so that they can help those most affected by this terrible virus
I heard about RTU through my partner, who ran two marathons to fundraise for RTU and also visited Anbu Illam Children's Village and many of RTU's projects in India. She could see that what RTU was doing was authentic, she saw empowerment, respect and care in practice and throughout an integrated bottom-up approach to alleviate poverty
Reaching the Unreached is a far-reaching grassroots organisation that has achieved an enormous amount in empowering the most marginalised and disadvantaged people in rural South India. I am going to volunteer there to help with the house-building programme, which is something I am very much looking forward to. To help fundraise to build the houses, I am completing two half marathons, and aim to raise £1000. I will be paying for my own flights.

A team of four parishioners are walking part of the Camino de Santiago Northern Route to support the first years running costs of a new boys hostel, that will be opened in March 2020.

James Kimpton, Margaret's uncle, founded Reaching the Unreached in the 70s and lived amongst the children he helped until his death in October 2017. The work carried out by so many to help so many orphaned and abandoned children in South India and amongst the poor of the surrounding communities is amazing
